The first lady also inaugurated the National Breast Cancer Awareness Helpline and said that the launch of this helpline would make it easy for the women to discuss their health issues with the doctors via phone call instead of visiting hospitals.
First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi said on Saturday that the breast cancer in Pakistan was taken quite seriously as almost 50,000 women from poor families had been educated about this disease during last two years.
According to a press release, she revealed these figures while talking to a breast cancer awareness activity held at the Governor House in the company of Sindh Governor Imran Ismail’s wife begum Reema Imran.
She said that the awareness campaign about this fatal disease was bringing positive results as women in Pakistan don’t take this disease as a taboo. She also appreciated the role of media in spreading her message to aware the Pakistani women of this disease.

She urged the women to have regular screening to avoid any emergency and identify this disease at early stages. She also asked the women to develop the habit of self-examination on regular basis.
Breast cancer was being diagnosed not only in the women above 50 years of age rather it was getting prevalent in young girls and women as well, she said adding that even men were also falling a prey to this disease.
She said that the toll of deaths due to breast cancer was rising in Pakistan due to the want of screening and radiation facilities and a disgrace attached to this disease.
She also requested the wealthy people to donate for those institutions which have the facilities of radiation and screening.
