Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday informed media that Chinese Premier Li Qiang will arrive in Pakistan on a four-day visit to discuss the matters of mutual interest on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) Summit.
This year Pakistan is hosting Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit through the rotating chairmanship of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) that is SCO’s second highest decision-making forum in which representatives of regional countries are also marking their presence.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press release, Chinese Premier Li Qiang will arrive in Pakistan for a four-day visit upon the invitation of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharf. Premier Li will stay in Pakistan from October 14-17, 2024.
The ministry further informed that the Premier Li would be accompanied by the Chinese ministers of foreign affairs and commerce, officials from National Development and Reform Commission, and China International Development Cooperation Agency along with other senior officials.
As per Foreign Office’s (FO) statement, “PM Shehbaz and Premier Qiang will lead their respective delegations to comprehensively discuss all the aspects of Pakistan-China relations including economic and trade ties and cooperation under the China Pakistan Economic Cooperation (CPEC). The two sides will also discuss regional and global developments.”
“It will be an occasion for the two sides to reaffirm mutual support on the issues of core interests; advance high-quality development of CPEC; and regular exchanges on important regional and global developments. This meeting is an expression of ‘all-weather strategic cooperative partnership’ between Pakistan and China.
It is worth mentioning here that the Chinese premier besides attending the SCO meetings will also meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and hold meetings with parliamentary leaders and senior military leadership of Pakistan.
