According to the details, CMACED and Pink Ribbon did the “Cancer Awareness Walk” at the Superior University, Lahore with an aim to reduce thousands of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness.

Cancer cases are continuously on the rise in Pakistan as over 300,000 cases are being reported every year and more than 100,000 people die of it annually. Breast cancer is among the most common types of cancer diagnosed in women in Pakistan. Statistics show that every 9th Pakistani woman is at risk of getting breast cancer. Averagely, over 40000 women die because of this fatal disease every year.

More than 100 students holding banners and placards participated in the walk and spread awareness about the prevention and early detection of the breast cancer.

Pink Ribbon Founder & CEO Omer Aftab said 40% of cancer can be prevented through adopting a healthy lifestyle and other 60% can be cured if detected early and treated properly. Smoking tobacco, using cigarettes, shisha & naswaar and adopting unhealthy lifestyle are the main causes of the cancers of lungs, oral cavity, breast and urinary bladder. Timely screening and active & healthy lifestyles, as well as avoiding risk factors, can protect people from all kinds of cancers, he added.

Speaking to the students and media, CMACED General Manager Muneeb Ahmed said that “we need cohesive efforts to reduce the burden of cancer in Pakistan and it is crucial to raise awareness about cancer and encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Holding a walk is a promising step from both the institutions to raise awareness among the youth of Pakistan for the early detection of the disease and self-consciousness from the perspective of health. Together, we can bring prosperity and harmony to the nation and work for the social development of Pakistan.
