Pakistan observes International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed around the world today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on this day has vowed to make citizens’ lives easier despite many economic challenges.

As per details, on October 17, 2024, the world observed International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. From past few decades, Pakistan is suffering from acute poverty due to high inflation and unstable economic conditions. Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif this year has showed his concern towards increasing poverty in the country. On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, he has vowed for eliminating the poverty through economic stability and growth. He ensured to create conducive environment for making life easier for the people.

As per a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the PM talked about the eradication of poverty by saying “from ensuring food security to addressing housing needs, our policies are geared towards creating long-term economic resilience. We are also proud of the progress made in empowering women and ensuring that their contributions are integral to the nation’s economic and social fabric.”

Government of Pakistan has been trying to uplift the lives of its citizens, “through our social safety net initiatives, we have made significant progress in alleviating poverty and ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens are supported. We believe that lifting people out of poverty is not just about immediate relief but about creating sustainable pathways to economic empowerment. Our targeted efforts aim at empowering communities, especially women and children, and giving them the tools they need to build a better future”, he added.

As per the press release, the PM also mentioned the launch of various programs which are the part of poverty eradication plan to transforms the lives of the citizens by providing financial assistance through the initiatives like PM Youth Business, agriculture loans, digi-skills and free IT trainings, and Pakistan Education Endowment Fund. Prime Minister further said, “Eradicating poverty was not just a moral duty but a fundamental cornerstone for achieving sustainable development and ensuring peace and prosperity for all.”

The PM also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to meet all the indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including 17th indicator for the poverty eradication and Pakistan will continue to collaborate with their global partners and work towards these goals with an emphasis on inclusive growth, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

It is worth mentioning here that the prime minister extended his appreciation to those who show commitment in eradicate poverty at global level. He stated, “Pakistan stands united with the global community in reaffirming our commitment to a world where no individual is left behind, where opportunities for success are not limited by one’s background or circumstances.”
