‘Pakistani rice, pine nuts, tea are gaining popularity in China’

Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industrial Demonstration Zone China Deputy Chief of the Exhibition Bureau Chen Qihui said on Saturday that Pakistani products particularly rice, pine nuts, and tea are gaining substantial popularity among Chinese consumers.

Since 2019, the China-Pakistan agricultural collaboration has created advancements in combine scientific research, agricultural education, technology demonstration and trade. In 2021, Shanghai Cooperation Organization Agriculture Base was attended by 49 Pakistani experts for water saving irrigation training program.

Recently, Pakistan participated in 31st China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair in Yangling under the leadership of Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi. Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech is an internationally renowned platform for agriculture innovation conducted form October 25-29, 2024 under the theme of a ‘new future of agriculture with new quality productive forces’. Ambassador Hashim along with Shaanxi Province Vice Governor Zhao Gang inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion at the fair.

Pakistan’s participation at this exhibition is in follow-up to the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Shaanxi Province, where he also visited Yangling Agriculture Demonstration Zone in June 2024.

While talking to media, Deputy Chief of the Exhibition Bureau Chen Qihui informed that he witnessed the growing demands for the Pakistani products like rice, pine nuts, and tea not only in major local supermarkets but also on e-commerce platforms.

In the opening ceremony, Ambassador Hashmi emphasized the strong ties with China particularly in the field of agriculture. Such platforms helped to learn from each other and Pakistan is willing to collaborate with China on innovations, agricultural modernization and food security.

It is worth mentioning here that currently over 142 Pakistani students are pursuing studies at Northwest A&F University. The said university has collaborated with leading Pakistani universities such as Quaid-i-Azam University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, and University of Sindh. The purpose behind these collaborations is to focus on research areas of nanobiotechnology and earthworm biotechnology under the Silk Road Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance.
