Peace prevails in Kurram

Kurram district has witnessed peace due to the ceasefire and the deployment of security forces in the Upper and Lower Kurram. However, two people were injured in Upper Kurram on Sunday.

As per details, during the last 10 days of armed conflict in the Kurram district caused 118 deaths out of which 43 people were killed in opened fire on passengers on November 21.

According to official sources, the government delegation intervened to ceasefire and ended violence in Kurram district. The ceasefire was enforced in both Upper and Lower Kurram.

In Khar Kalay, Morghay Cheena, Balesh Khel, Sangeena, Irfani Kalay, Jalamy, Chadrewal, Alizai, Bagan, Badshah Kot and Talo Kunj in Lower Kurram and Ghozgahri, Matasangar, Maqbal, Gidu, Pewar and Kunj Alizai in Upper Kurram, security forces, paramilitary Frontier Constabulary , and local police are deployed to ensure the security in said affected areas.

On Sunday, the grand jirga was held at the Commissioner House in Kohat. This jirga was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, PML-N provincial president and Federal Minister for Safron Engineer Amir Muqam, ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain, PPP’s Syed Muhammad Ali Shah, National Democratic Movement’s Bushra Gohar, Jamaat-i-Islami’s Prof Ibraheem, Qaumi Watan Party Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao and former MNA Sajid Hussain Tori.

During the jirga meeting, Governor Kundi highlighted the role of local Pakhtun elders and political leaders in fostering long-term peace.“Who else can understand the pain of carrying dead bodies and injured Pakhtuns better than us?” he remarked.

The governor decided that he could remain in Kurram until permanent peace is restored, warning against “sinister elements” disrupting harmony. He vowed to identify and punish those responsible for stirring unrest.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi criticized the KPK Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for lack of interest in security issues of Kurram district. The governor also announced a multi-party conference on December 5 to address the Kurram conflict.

It is worth mentioning that despite the ceasefire two people were injured in Pewar the situation in Upper Kurram remains fragile.
