Proud to be a Naani: Maryam tells Imran

Fraaz Mahmud Kasuri

She said that a Naani is the mother of a mother who has the route to heaven under her feet and making fun of this beautiful relation is not appreciable.

Maryam Nawaz on Sunday replied to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement in which he used the word Naani for her.

Addressing the second Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally in Karachi, PML-N central leader Maryam Nawaz said she was proud of her status as a maternal grandmother.

Earlier, a day before, Imran Khan, while addressing a convention of Pakistan Tiger Force, had called Maryam Nawaz as a Naani.

Taking the prime minister’s words a bit seriously, Maryam said that she was proud of being a Naani as this is the most beautiful relation one can have.

She said that whenever she feels tired she asks her daughter to bring her three years old granddaughter Zareena and three months old grandson Muhammad. Having my grandchildren around is the most beautiful feeling and all my fatigue vanishes away as see them around, she added.

She said that a Naani is the mother of a mother who has the route to heaven under her feet and making fun of this beautiful relation is not appreciable.

Telling Imran Khan that he had insulted the beautiful relation of Naani, she said that she would not respond to this statement in the same way as it did not suit her to go that low.

She further said that there should be respect in the conduct of political adversaries and one must not get personal to achieve his/her political goals.

She said that the participants of PDM are rivals in the arena of politics but they are respectful to one another. Maulana Fazl ur Rehman places his hand on her head whenever she meets him, Asif Ali Zardari and Mehmood Achakzai call her beti while Bilawal considers her as his elder sister.

She said that today all are together for the rights of the people of Pakistan but they are rivals too in political field but not enemies.

She asked Bilawal to continue being respectful in the political dealings unlike Imran Khan who promotes the culture of revenge and mistreatment.

She revealed that before her death Benazir Bhutto was very close to Mian Nawaz Sharif as a sister and she (Maryam) was continuing that relation with Bilawal as her sister.

She also said that the government of Imran Khan was so afraid of Mian Nawaz Sharif that it did not allow the news channels to on air his speech.

She also said that let people listen to Main Nawaz Sharif and decide either he is right wrong.

She added that it was an open secret now that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was working on the agenda of Imran Khan just to corner the opposition.

Bilawal Bhutto while addressing the same rally said that a true democracy was needed in the country. There should be a government that is elected by the will of the public, he added.

Among the speakers were JUI-F chief Mulana Fazlur Rehman and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mehmood Achakzai as well.

Maulana Fazl at the end explaining the motives of PDM said that the sole purpose of this movement was to restore real democracy in Pakistan.
