Monitoring Desk

On the call of protest from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, party leaders, workers and supporters of PTI gathered at the D-Chowk on Friday, October 4, 2024. Last night, intense clashes were witnessed between PTI workers and police but the PTI workers did celebrate the birthday of Imran Khan.

Reportedly, despite the imposition of section 144 in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur with PTI supporters marched towards Islamabad for a peaceful protest at D-Chowk. In addition to that, federal authorities had blocked all the routes leading towards Islamabad. PTI supporters who lived within twin cities had gathered at the D-Chowk last night.

Islamabad’s Red Zone and D-Chawk witnessed intense clashes between PTI workers and police. Last night, there was a continuous exchange of tear gas shelling from police and stones attacks from PTI workers. The street lights of D-Chowk were switched off to control the PTI workers. Throughout the day, efforts had been made by the police to disperse the crowd but protesters regrouped and launched fresh assaults.

To control the situation, a large contingent of police, Anti-Riot Force, and Frontier Corps personnel had been deployed led to the arrest of over 25 PTI workers from 26 No. Chungi. Late night, the army was also deployed in the city.

It is worth mentioning here that PTI supporters celebrated PTI founder Imran Khan’s birthday during heavy clashes and tear gas shelling.
