Shehbaz, Yunus vow to heal 1971 wounds and strengthen ties

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Dr.Muhammad Yunas on Thursday on the sidelines of the D-8 summit of developing nations in Cairo. Both leaders expressed the desire to move on from past grievances about Dhaka’s 1971 separation from Pakistan.

As per details, now a day, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif is on his official visit to Egypt to participate in the D-8 summit of developing. On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister also met with various world leaders including the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh

During a meeting, Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunas and PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed the desire to resolve all past grievances regarding the 1971 separation of Dhaka from Islamabad.

According to AFP news agency, Dr Muhammad Yunus asked PM Shehbaz, “The issues have kept coming again and again. Let’s settle those issues for us to move forward and this is a top priority”

As per the PM office statement, PM Shehbaz highlighted the historical, religious, and cultural linkages between the two countries. He expressed the desire to increase bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, people-to-people contacts, and cultural exchanges.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his, “gratefulness for the recent development in the facilitation of trade and travel between the two countries, including the abdication of the condition of 100 percent physical inspection of the consignments from Pakistan and abolishment of special security desk at the Dhaka airport, earlier established to scrutinise Pakistani passengers”, the statement added.

The prime minister also thanked for removing additional clearance requirements for Pakistani visa applicants. He also emphasized the need to boost trade in different sectors, including chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical goods, leather goods, and IT.

It is worth mentioning here that both two leaders expressed satisfaction over recent positive developments in bilateral relations They also agreed to increase and expand bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and stressed the need to bring into line efforts to achieve mutually beneficial development objectives.

The two leaders recognized the importance of people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges through the exchange of artists, sportspersons, academics, and students.
