Supreme Court’s Justice (SCJ) Hasan Azhar Rizvi during the hearing of intra-court appeals if civilian trials in a military court case, remarked that people entering the corps commander’s house in Lahore was a total ‘security breach’.
As per details, on Tuesday, during the hearing of civilian trials in the military court case Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi remarked on May 9, 2023 in Lahore ,”Did people reach the Corps Commander’s house on May 9? People entering the Corps Commander’s House is indeed a security breach”.
During the hearing, Ministry of Defence counsel Khawaja Haris, said that the trial of civilians in the military court was not a sudden development as the law has existed since 1967.
Ministry of Defence counsel Khawaja Haris gave the reference of FB Ali case, adding that “even during peacetime, civilians interfering in military affairs would face trial in military courts”.
At this, Justice Azhar remarked that FB Ali case happened during the civil martial law.
The judge further inquired whether any military officer was tried for involvement in the events of May 9 as people entered the Corps Commander House because of security breech.
The judge questioned whether confrontation was put up when military installations were damaged on 9 May.
In response, the Ministry of Defence’s lawyer said that the “charges against the protesters pertain to causing property damage. No military officer was charged for the events of May 9, and complete restraint was observed to avoid any loss of life”.
