Baloch human rights activist and Baloch Yakjehti Committee leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch makes her name in the Time Magazine’s ‘Time100 Next 2024’ for peacefully advocating Baloch rights.

Time Magazine’s ‘Time100 Next 2024’ list has enlisted 100 young people “who are not waiting long in life to make an impact” and aims “to recognise that influence does not have [requirements] … nor does leadership looks like it once did”.

Dr. Mahrang is Baloch human rights activist, who is fighting for the rights of Baloch since 2009, when her father Ghaffar Longove was kidnapped outside a hospital in Karachi. At that time, Mahrang was a primary school student, eldest of six siblings and she began spearhead protest. During the protest ,she burned her school books in front of the Quetta Press Club as an act of protest. However, in 2011, she received her father’s mutilated dead body.

In 2023, Dr. Mahrang led a massive peaceful long march and sit-in in Islamabad against the forced disappearance of Baloch people. Hundreds of women marched with her for the justice for their husbands, sons, and brothers.

Dr. Mahrang is selected in ‘Time100 Next 2024’ list for the peaceful advocacy of human rights. While using the social media platform, Dr Mahrang said I am deeply honoured and delighted to be named among the top 100 emerging leaders of the world by the Time Magazine. I dedicate this recognition to all the Baloch women human rights defenders and the families of the victims who were forcefully disappeared”.
