Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has called for a protest during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Islamabad. The federal government has already imposed section 144 in Islamabad and has issued high-security alert.
Reportedly, on Monday, October 14, 2024, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is fully prepared for a power show in Islamabad. While speaking on the KPK Assembly floor he said, “we are coming to Islamabad tomorrow (October 15) for which we are ready as always. We are deeply concerned over Imran Khan’s health and the government is forcing us to stage a protest in the favour of our demands.”
National Assembly opposition leader Omar Ayyub while talking to a private media channel criticized the government for not allowing anyone to meet PTI founder Imran Khan. “It is our constitutional and legal right to meet with Imran Khan, but the government has imposed unnecessary restrictions. PTI will hold the protest on October 15 in Islamabad, if we are not allowed to meet Imran Khan”, he said.
In response to the statements of Ali Amin Gandapur and opposition leader Omar Ayyub, Information Minister Atta Tarar while talking to a media channel said that “those who have a mindset to conspire against the country should better stay at home as no miscreant will be allowed to disrupt the SCO Summit in Islamabad. The announcements (for protest) do not make any difference as Islamabad has been made fully safe and secure.”
