President Arif Alvi attends LCWU’s 16th convocation as special guest

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that there is no shortage of talented manpower in Pakistan and increasing both quality and quantity in the education sector is need of the hour. He was addressing the 16th convocation of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) as a special guest.

The convocation was presided by LCWU Chancellor and Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar while Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Controller Examinations Huma Saeed, Registrar Babar Ali Khan, University of Education Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, Virtual University Rector Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Lahore Board Chairman Habib Mirza, Principals of affiliated colleges Dr. Fauzia, Halima Afridi, senior faculty members and officials of the host university also attended the ceremony.

The convocation will continue for three days in which degrees and medals will be awarded to the students who passed out in the academic sessions of 2019 and 2020.

The president in his address also said that educating a girl is just like educating a whole family as she is the one who manages a family in future.

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar in his address said that Lahore College for Women University is playing an important role in women education. Since becoming chancellor, I have promoted appointments to universities on merit, with positive results. He also said that the present government was providing equal opportunities to women in every field.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza in her welcome address said that Lahore College for Women University has entered its 100th year and the list of university achievements in this journey is long.

Lahore College for Women University is updating the curriculum keeping in view the market trends, she said adding that several new disciplines have been introduced in this regard.

She further said that the university administration was grateful to the government for sanctioning funds of Rs 1.77 billion for its new campus at Kala Shah Kaku.

On the first day of the convocation, 1309 students were awarded with MS / M.Phil degrees and medals. The number of students who got PhD degrees was 96 while at the M.Phil level 45 students were awarded with gold medals and eight students were awarded with special gold medals.
