Pakistan is going to host Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Islamabad on October 15-16, 2024. India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will attend this summit. This is the first formal visit of any Indian official since 2015 to Pakistan.
As per details, this year Pakistan is hosting Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit through the rotating chairmanship of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) that is SCO’s second highest decision-making forum.
According to Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Pakistan. This will be the first high-rank official’s visit to Pakistan from India since 2015. Last year, Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India for SCO summit in Goa. It was the first high-level official visit from Pakistan to India since 2011.
As per details, Pakistan Economic Coordination Committee had approved over Rs 1bn to host the SCO summit in Pakistan. Earlier, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to ensure the required arrangements for SCO-CHG, had a meeting with the top officials including federal secretary interior, Islamabad police’s inspector general, additional secretaries, Islamabad’s chief commissioner, Islamabad’s deputy commissioner, Frontier Corps’ (FC) deputy commandant, Pakistan Rangers’ sector commander, and the representatives from security agencies.
It is worth mentioning here that the SCO was created by China, Russia and four Central Asian countries in 2001 as a countermeasure to limit the influence of Western alliances such as Nato.
