Mohsin Naqvi for foolproof security of SCO Summit

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday held a meeting with top officials to arrange special security for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Islamabad.

Reportedly, Pakistan is holding Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit’s rotating chairmanship of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG). This is SCO’s second highest decision-making forum. This October 2024, Pakistan is hosting SCO summit in Islamabad scheduled for October 15-16, 2024.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to ensure the required arrangements for SCO-CHG, called a meeting with the top officials including federal secretary interior, Islamabad police’s inspector general, additional secretaries, Islamabad chief commissioner, Islamabad deputy commissioner, Frontier Corps (FC) deputy commandant, Pakistan Rangers sector commander, and representatives from security agencies on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Earlier, Economic Coordination Committee had approved over Rs 1bn for to host the SCO summit in Pakistan. During the meeting, the interior minister reviewed and approved the comprehensive plan to ensure the foolproof security arrangements, beautification and cleanliness of Islamabad.

The foreign office has already sent the formal invitations to all the heads of the governments including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The summit will host several rounds of senior officials’ and ministerial meetings focusing on the financial, economic, socio-cultural and humanitarian cooperation among the SCO member states.

During the meeting, Naqvi laid stress on the mutual coordination and cooperation among all the relevant departments for the peaceful and successful conduct of SCO-CHG summit.
