Pakistan’s digital economy has become a source of income for millions of people across the country. Online small businesses, freelancers, startups, and service-based industries depend on frequent internet use. These online businesses also contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s economy.
According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan, online exports grew by 143%, from $1 billion in 2018 to $2.6 billion in 2023.
However, digital business owners are unable to meet local and international commitments due to internet disruptions over the last few months. This causes substantial financial losses that are absorbed by businesses and ripple into the larger economy.
People are often forced to use VPNs to run their online businesses and mitigate these significant financial losses.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi stated that using VPNs for the purpose of accessing illegal content or blocked websites is against Shariah. He further asserted that it is the government’s responsibility to prohibit such access and that it is obligatory for every Muslim to obey the constitution and laws of the country unless they are contrary to Islamic principles.
