Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reached Ankara Airport on Tuesday where he was received by Ankara Deputy Governor Ismail Küreci, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Syrus Sajad Qazi and other senior embassy officials.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Qureshi will travel to New York with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Sudan and Palestine.
In New York, he will speak at the UN General Assembly, meet with political leaders, have dialogues with local and international media representatives, and introduce Pakistan’s views on the Palestinian situation.
In a telephone conversation with a Pakistani news channel, the foreign minister said that efforts were being made to stop the Palestinian foreign minister from attending the UN General Assembly meeting.
He said that since the meeting was convened to discuss the plight of the Palestinian people, the Palestinian foreign minister should start the debate.
FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that his delegation would wait for the Palestinian foreign minister to join them in Istanbul.
He pledged the Muslim population of approximately 65 million living in Western countries to play their part to help the suffering Palestinian people.
He said that the next 48 hours were crucial and that if it was not done now, it would not be good on the part of the Palestinian people.
Qureshi also urged the media to lay emphasis on the situation of helpless people of Palestine so that Israeli aggression might be unveiled.
He told the media that OIC and several other Muslim countries were now determined to play their part in the freedom of Palestine.
According to FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the UN General Assembly session which was held after UN Security Council could not bring any consensus and went fruitless.
He credited the OIC for convincing the UN General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir to hold another session on May 20.
