People give special care and attention to their feet usually in summers, when fashion often revolves around stylish sandals & flip – flops. They generally neglect to care for their feet when the winter comes around thinking that their feet will not be on display in the cold. But it is just as important to properly care for your feet in winters as you do the same in summers. Here are some techniques and suggestions which can help one properly maintain the health of his or her feet all the year.
How to have healthy feet?
Everybody wants to have his or her feet in good physical shape. If your feet are in pain, it takes a toll on your entire body. Your feet carry your weight every day and, in return, they deserve a little care. Happy feet are well cared for, so let’s learn how to make your feet happy. Feet need water just like the rest of your body. They need hydration too, so the adults should drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. Spring water or filtered water is the best choice as it helps your body eliminate toxins, keeps organs and cells functioning properly and helps skin stay moisturised.
What to do?
1- Wash your feet in the tub. Shower or foot bath at least once a day and scrub between your toes with antibacterial soap. Be sure to spend a few extra minutes washing your heels, ankles and the sides of your feet to get them thoroughly clean.
2- Use a nail brush to scrub away dirt between your toe nails and skin. Lather the brush thoroughly, scrub and then rinse.
3- Dry your feet completely and carefully with a clean towel. Dry between the toes, it will help prevent a fungus that may be a cause of red flaking skin and can lead to a more severe situation.
4- Trim toe nails cuticles with a clean sharp cuticle nipper; never pull on loose edges.
5-Moisturise your feet every day with an unscented lotion or foot clean. Be sure to massage clean and liberally into rough areas.
6- Wear comfortable shoes everyday that are breathable and with their help keep your feet clean & healthy.
7- Wear clean socks or stockings every day.
8- Cover your feet at public swimming pools, gyms and saunas so that they may not pick up fungus or bacteria from the floor.
Examine feet for sores, Infection, rashes, swelling and corns and treat them promptly.
What not to do?
1-Don’t pull at your toe nails cuticles as this will cause bleeding and infection. Don’t neglect to peel toe nail polish or remove the polish and let them go natural. You may apply a clear strengthening nail polish as well to keep them strong.
2- Don’t use other peoples manicure tools (Cuticle, nippers, pumice, stains etc). If you visit a local beauty salon frequently, bring your own tools.
3- Don’t go bare footed unless you are forced to.
4-Don’t ignore itches or rashes on your feet and tend them promptly.
5- Don’t wear smelly foot wear, as it can be dirty and a breeding ground for bacteria.
What about your feet themselves ?
Give your feet pedicure yourself. Practice good foot care by giving yourself a pedicure twice a month as pedicures help feet stay healthy and alert you for the early signs of foot problems. For a self-pedicure, soak feet in warm soapy water for five minutes, blot dry and inspect feet for ingrown nails, redness and injuries; trim and file toenails using a foot file, lightly file calluses and rough spots.
To protect your feet, you need the same sun and cold protection as your hands do. Always use sun screen when your feet are exposed to the sun. Wear warm socks to protect feet from exposure to winter weather
