World Air Quality Index (IQAir) on Wednesday listed Lahore as world’s second most air-polluted city due to the worst smog situation.
Reportedly, as per IQAir’s list related to the air quality of different cities in the world, Lahore ranked as the second most polluted city of in the world due to its smog crisis. However, Karachi ranked 11th in the list of most polluted cities.
The cities with AQI below 50 are considered to have healthy air but Lahore’s AQI has crossed 400 mark that means its air quality is hazardous.
Among many reasons, vehicle and industrial emissions, smoke from brick kilns, the burning of crop remainder and general waste, and dust from the construction sites are the major reasons behind air pollution in Lahore.
The IQAir has recommended the citizens of Lahore to avoid outdoor exercise/activities, keep doors and windows closed to prevent dirty air, wear mask and run air purifiers around them. IQAir has also warned about the health risks and allergies in both cities; Lahore and Karachi.
The first most polluted city in the IQAir’s list is New Delhi, with a very unhealthy air quality as the AQI level in the Indian capital is 334.
After Delhi, there comes Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo with an AQI level of 238.
Meanwhile, Karachi ranks 11th in the list of the most polluted cities. Those who are sensitive to dust and other toxins and allergies are at risk as the AQI in the metropolis has reached the bar of 77.
Punjab senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said has said in this regard that Punjab government has made all the arrangements to tackle with smog including the option of artificial rain with a cost of Rs 5 million to Rs 7 million.
It is worth mentioning that New Delhi is the first most polluted city with a very unhealthy air quality.
