On Tuesday, a meeting of the National Action Plan (NAP) apex committee was held in Islamabad to approve a full-fledged military operation aimed at attacking and abolishing militancy and separatist movements in Baluchistan. The committee also advised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KPK) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur to avoid protests, as they might disturb interprovincial harmony.
Reportedly, the apex committee meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir, all chief ministers, the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, federal cabinet members, and senior officials.
During the NAP meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz raised concerns over the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests and marches towards Islamabad and the provinces of Punjab. CM Maryam Nawaz questioned how the KPK CM Ali Amin consistently led protests and marches of allies from Peshawar to Islamabad, endangering the lives and property of the people.
In response to Maryam Nawaz’s concerns, CM KPK Ali Amin responded by highlighting the injustices and hardships faced by PTI and its founder, Imran Khan. “Our leader is in jail, our workers are being persecuted,” he complained.
According to Geo News sources, during the discussion, “Maryam was a bit harsh.” The source conjectured that Gandapur remained calm and showed no sign of aggression, possibly because he was seated next to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. There was, however, no further exchange of arguments between the two chief ministers.
The source also confirmed to Geo News that “something behind the scenes was going on,” as they observed the closeness between Naqvi and Gandapur. When asked if Gandapur or any other member of the committee discussed dialogue between the PTI and the government or establishment, the source stated that no such discussion took place during the meeting.
It is worth mentioning here that the NAP apex committee advised Gandapur to avoid protest rallies from KP to Punjab, as they could disturb interprovincial harmony. CM KPK was also advised that the PTI should mobilize its voters and supporters from Punjab for protests within the province, rather than organizing rallies from KP to Punjab.
