Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman (VC) Shah Mehmood Qureshi advocated for national reconciliation and consensus to achieve political stability in Pakistan on Saturday.

As per details, former foreign minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi while talking to media after his appearance in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, emphasized the need for national reconciliation and consensus to stabilize the political landscape. He warned the authorities that banning PTI would further complicate the political situation.

Mr. Qureshi also called on politicians from various political parties to work together toward achieving national consensus and ending political instability in the country. Additionally, he requested a permission from the authorities to meet PTI founder Imran Khan to share his views on developing national reconciliation and consensus.

Mr. Qureshi’s remarks followed reports of the federal government’s plans to ban PTI and impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to PTI workers’ alleged violent actions in the capital city.

“The incumbent government’s consideration to impose governor’s rule in KP would be tantamount to desecrating the will of the people who gave a ‘two-thirds majority’ to the PTI. I hope the politically astute members of the PML-N will oppose this idea and warn their leadership that it would be a political and historical blunder,” Mr. Qureshi stated.

Mr. Qureshi further warned that crushing PTI would not be in Pakistan’s interest and would exacerbate instability. He pointed out that Balochistan was grappling with insurgency, terrorism was rising in KP, and Sindh was protesting against the federal government’s approach to the water crisis.

“Can the government achieve economic stability without political stability, or secure IMF funding after imposing governor’s rule and proscribing PTI?” he asked while addressing Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

“You can attain stability through authoritarian rule, but it will not be sustainable. Election engineering might yield short-term results, but it will fail to ensure legitimacy,” Mr. Qureshi cautioned the government.

He also praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman for labeling the February 8 elections as “illegitimate and fake.” “If the February 8 elections had not been rigged, the country would not have been suffering,” he quoted Maulana Fazl as saying.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Qureshi expressed gratitude to the PPP, JUI-F, Jamaat-i-Islami, and the Balochistan National Party – BNP (Mengal) for opposing the resolution to ban PTI.
