Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and ex-provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai expressed disappointment and anger over the mishandling of recent protests in Islamabad. He also criticized the PTI leadership for lack of involvement during protests and marches.
Reportedly, while talking to a Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath”, Shaukat Yousafzai discussed the aftermath of the protests and accused the PTI leadership of worsening the situation.
Yousafzai stressed the lack of leadership presence during critical moments of the protest, saying: “Entire families have been ruined; leadership did not come forward then, and still isn’t coming forward.”
Yousafzai admitted that PTI leadership was absent during the critical moments of the protest saying, “entire families have been ruined; leadership did not come forward then, and still isn’t coming forward’.
“Ali Amin and Bushra Bibi led the workers to the protest site, but the rest of the leadership was nowhere to be seen,” he said.
He also criticized the PTI leadership for allowing Bushra Bibi non-political individuals to take up and influence key decisions in the party, adding: “Bushra Bibi is a non-political individual. Even if she was insistent, was the party leadership so weak to allow this?”
Our workers came to Islamabad to protest, not to face bullets’, he further accused the leadership of failing to protect party workers.
He grieved our receiving worker’s dead bodies, “One of our workers’ bodies has been returned to us’.
In answering the question of internal party division, Yousafzai responded, “if there were differences within the party leadership, why was the protest planned in the first place?”
He emphasized that ‘decisions are made by central leaders, not provincial presidents or local leadership’.
Yousfzai also condemned the federal government for using force against their nationals,” you fire bullets and expect our workers to stand firm—are they made of steel?”
He pointed out the return of a worker’s body, as evidence of the protest’s mismanagement by the government.
It is worth mentioning here that Yousafzai affirmed that PTI is a popular political party but advised its leadership to step forward and lead with accountability. “PTI is a popular political party, and its leadership needs to step forward,” he added.
