Water crisis in Pakistan is creating an alarming situation due to the shortage of water nowadays. Ironically, we are failed to store the water because of negligible number of dams.
Avinash Advani
Water is a basic necessity of human beings, animals and plants; a human can survive only three to four days without water. As per a recent report, Pakistan is the 3rd most effected country with a critical shortage of water.
Water crisis in Pakistan is creating an alarming situation due to the shortage of water nowadays. Ironically, we are failed to store the water because of negligible number of dams. There are also reports published that Pakistan will have a drastic problem of water in the coming years. It is also reported that it might become the most water stressed country with high chances to face retrogression.
Pakistan has failed to construct district-wise dams to store the rainfall water. This issue needs to be addressed on urgent basis by constructing dams without further delay; otherwise, it will cause utter scarcity of water. At the very same time, our agriculture is depending upon water and 95% people use fresh water for irrigation that is the huge ratio.
In fact, Pakistan is facing a water war due to different reasons. Water scarcity in Pakistan shows as if tour water resources are being stolen. However, per capita availability of water is declined due to population explosion and the mismanagement of water resources further adds fuel to fire.
Domestic wastage of water shall not be disregarded as one of the reasons of water shortage. People open tap in the kitchen or to brush their teeth and forget to close. People wash their vehicle with drinkable water at homes breaching the law. Farmers even utilize flooding system to water their fields which wastes the water. Sometimes, drinkable water is also used to clean clothes and utensils that causes the shortage of clean and fresh water. Water is also wasted in terms of outflow through muddy canals which are not yet cemented to save water.
Now, let’s discuss the wastage of water at government level. No major development has been made in terms of dams after Mangla and Tarbela, due to which, storage capacity has not been increased and water is ultimately wasted.
Location of dams is another issue which leads to the failure of dams. No proper legislation has been made to save the water rather implementation of the existing policies is also not observed. Water is wasted in Pakistan due to lack of storage capacity, lack of planning, mismanagement and political will as some forces and political parties play provincial card for their own benefits.
Pakistan stores less water from the available water surface flows due to the lack of sufficient storage capacity. Pakistan merely preserves water for 30 days as per IRSA report and a huge amount of water is tossed in Arabian Sea rather than being stored in dams.
Remedies to resolve this issue:
1) Strategic Conservation
Integrated approach towards this problem and construction of more dams. Supply and demand management of water and water conservation at domestic level.
2) Population Control
3) Diversifying Water Resources
Recycling and reclaiming artificial recharge of underground water resources. Exploration of new underground water resources.
4) Awareness Campaign
Media must be educating farmers about water efficiency, changing cropping patterns and improving soil productivity.
5) Water policy and its implementation taking all the stakeholders on board and avoiding politics over water.
These are the factors which affect agriculture, economy and health of the people causing unemployment and domestic issues. In the meanwhile, remedies are identified to resolve the issue.
There is a dire need of well-organized management of water resources and institutional planning. Firstly, traditional irrigation system should be replaced with the modern irrigation system. We can spread awareness nationwide by running different campaigns.
We can tell people that increasing population is putting stress on the available water and its consumption. Also, that construction of new dams is essential in order to resolve this issue on immediate basis. Pakistan is already facing many issues; the major issue is economy which is unstable.
However, it is a pre-requisite to save the water by increasing the storage capacity. Slight efforts on the part of individuals may save a huge proportion of water. Thus, individual efforts may surely bring big changes in our attitude towards saving water. One should start from oneself.

While addressing the Insaf Doctors Convention, he said Naya Pakistan would not be established by switching some button on rather it would be done by doing constant and collective struggle.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that Pakistani nation would have to fight jointly to materialize the dream of Naya Pakistan by introducing reforms at institutional level and following the principle of meritocracy.
While addressing the Insaf Doctors Convention, he said that people ask him about Naya Pakistan and added that Naya Pakistan would not be established by switching some button on rather it would be done by doing constant and collective struggle.
He said that it was the most appropriate time for the nation to struggle collectively for the refinement of the government institutions which are in a read bad condition.
He said that the construction work of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Peshawar and its foreign certification took three years in total while only the refinement of the government hospitals in KP took even more than three years
He explained that this delay was because of the mafias in the hospitals as they used to obtain stay orders from the courts whenever some reforms were introduced from the government. Similarly, mafias in the country resisted change and put hurdles in the way of the government, he said.
Talking about the growing corona cases, he asked the nation to strictly follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and said that the next two months were really critical especially for the cities with high pollution and smog.
The nationalization of hospitals and schools in Pakistan damaged the performance of the public hospitals and schools leaving the low income people in lurch, he said adding that the rich people who were supposed to introduce reforms started having their medical treatments from London and other foreign countries.
He urged the nation to study the concept of the State of Madina which introduced a great civilization but after a consistent struggle.
The prime minister said that reforms in health sector were never meant to privatize the hospitals rather they were to implement meritocracy there.
About the coalition of the opposition parties, he said that all the pickpockets had made an alliance when they were all made accountable to their corrupt deeds.
He further said that it was a crucial time for Pakistan as he would not be blackmailed by the opposition coalition and would hold them accountable for their corruption.
The people of KP always favoured the one who did something to improve their living standard, he said adding that this was the reason they elected PTI consecutively for the second time and that also with a two third majority.
He also asked the Punjab government to introduce health insurance card in Punjab like the KP. He directed the Punjab government to issue health insurance cards to widows, low income families and transgenders initially.
With the issuance of Sehat Insaf Card, the network of private hospitals would also expand and the government had already planned different incentives for them like duty-free medical equipment and evacuee property land at concessional rates for their buildings.
Talking about the wave of Islamophobia initiated by France, the prime minister said that he had written letters to all the Muslim countries to respond jointly to raise the issue of Islamophobia in the world.
Besides a fashion statement, bags are a kind of accessory which is our daily need in which we usually put money, makeup, jewellery, eatables or any personal thing which we might need while going out.
By Maria Gul Laraib
Whenever or wherever we go, we all never forget to take our hand bags with us. Yes! Some of us don’t like to wear jewelry or makeup and keep stylish hairstyles all the time. But, without fashionable hand bags and purses our life seems so incomplete. Besides a fashion statement, bags are a kind of accessory which is our daily need in which we usually put money, makeup, jewellery, eatables or any personal thing which we might need while going out.
This is an age of modernism where fashion is not limited to women. Accessories are also designed by men even from jewellery to handbags. It would not be wrong to say that today’s man is saying yes to the trend of carrying handbags even big ones!!
If don’t believe it, just search out for the dashing images of Orlando Bloom and Cristiano Ronaldo carrying handbags confidently. However, in Pakistan every new fashion genre takes a little time to blend with our rich culture. But, in the recent and, upcoming fashion shows male bags are going to become quite a common thing as rich hunks of Lahore are already carrying bags.
Keeping in view this global man happening, many of our accessory brands are already working to launch ‘local men’s bag collections’ which are trendy and economical at the same time.
However, it would not be appropriate to write anything about the styles of man handbags before the local bags collection is launched. So, this article is dedicated to our beautiful fashionistas only!!
As we know that the fashion priorities as well as the needs and requirements of every age group are different. So, hands bags are divided among three major age groups.
Contemporary bags are carried by the young bloods between the ages of 16 to 24. These bags are quite trendy and are usually sported on casual events such as hanging out with friends or in universities.
These bags are quite big in size so you can stuff them with loads of things like makeup and, of course a big lunch box containing delicious food to be enjoyed with friends during university hours.
Don’t forget to embellish your big bag with interesting key chains to make it look even funkier.
Contemporary bags are available in the market in different fabrics as youngsters don’t like to carry a leather bag. So, just go for a cane, jute, denim or printed khadi bag with a lot of laces or golden and silver glittery linings in their fabric. Just grab them from the market. Believe me! You will look a super cool kitty…
When we talk about our working ladies they want more of a classy and versatile looks for themselves. So, straight and sleek cut bags are the right choice for them. Usually, sleek leather bags with long straps are designed with a lot of pockets and have at least two inside partitions so it is easy to keep them neat and well managed, and not stuffed like a teen’s ‘contemporary ones’.
Black, brown, royal blue, white or skins are the evergreen colors for leather bags. So, go for them especially those, which are designed with a brand name exhibited over them. Because, sometimes it is just the brand that makes your classy bag popular among your colleagues….
You all have seen Hina Rabbani Khar; our versatile and talented politician carrying the world’s most popular bag types which are categorized as high fashion bags. These bags are majorly designed by the international accessory brands like Gucci, Channel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton which are easily available from the posh markets of Paksitan.
The spectacular thing about these bags that makes you crazy at their first sight is their glamorous cuts, the feel and gloss, and the softness of the real animal skin when you touch them.
If you are a fashion pet of a rich class, buy these bags immediately. They are available from formal clutches and semi-formal purses, to the casual big bags. However, today’s trade mark of high fashion bags is medium sized purse with long string attached to them. Long string purses were the fashion statement of 1990’s which gradually made its glorious comeback in early 2013.
But, this time these high fashion purses are not only loved by women but by the young girls also as many of them have been seen carrying these purses especially with fusion wear like jumpsuits or even with long shirts and choori dar pajama.
If we talk about the latest color varieties in bags; Barbie and tea pink, camel brown, black, royal blue and fiery hot colour bags are going really trendy.
However, as I discussed earlier that the global hallmark of these winters is dirty yellow which made its successful entry in Pakistan and got popular not even in accessories but in our daily attires as well.
So just start the survey of your favorite accessories on different outlets ,and you’ll find dirty yellow bags from contemporary’s to high fashion ones everywhere.
Enjoy the changing weather with a confidence that you are the most fashionable lady who never compromises on the choice of her essential accessory; hand bags!!

This will make the kids able to think out of the box and to be ready to take steps towards their future aim.
This program is focusing on the current problems that the young kids are facing in their academics and personal lives because of low self-esteem, lack of academic platforms, lack of skill-based teaching, lack of creative skills, and absence of career counseling in their schools.
To overcome these challenges, Oh My Genius will introduce an entrepreneurial mindset at the grass-root level to foster independent and positive thinking among the students. That will help them identify opportunities and inculcate strong belief in themselves and their abilities.
Up till now, little attention has been paid to the participation of kids in such entrepreneurial initiatives. Pakistan is our country and the youth is our asset.
